Summary of Prong 3 Outreach Initiatives between 1/1/04 to 3/4/2005

3/2/05 – Participation in scholarship programs: Roy D. Pena Annual Scholarship at the University of Texas Austin.

2/25/05 – Participation in job banks, internet programs, and other programs designed to promote outreach: Texas Association of Broadcasters Job Bank at San Antonio College.

1/20/05 – Participation in job fairs: McAllen ISD Career Fair; Memorial High School, Nikki Rowe High School, McAllen High School. All three high schools in the McAllen area held a joint career fair.

10/14/04 – Provision of training to management: Texas Business Conference attended by Romeo Rodriguez, Comptroller. KRGV issued training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination.

4/15/04 – Participation in job fairs: University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College hosted Spring Splash Career Fair 2004.

4/1/04 – Participation in scholarship programs: Roy D. Pena, Jr. Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Communication at the University of Texas at Austin is a scholarship program in which KRGV donates in memory of Roy Pena, who was a reporter at KRGV.

2/24/04 – Provision of training to management: Broadcast Cable Financial Management Behavioral Interviewing by Wrise Booker, President, Reid Dugger Consulting Group Provision of training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination.

1/16/04 – Provision of training to management: Texas Business Conference Urban Legends of Employment Law and the Basics of Hiring, McAllen, Texas by Mark Fenner.

NEWSCHANNEL 5 anchors, reporters and production personnel participate in events that promote broadcast employment development. NEWSCHANNEL 5 personnel include discussions regarding their careers, the broadcast industry and educational preparation for a career in broadcast media during these events.
